It doesn’t matter if you’re attending an interview, or going to your office for another day’s work, these tips will help you achieve that professional look.
- WARDROBE
Your success rate in your career is dependent on three things, says the Senior Editor of Teen Vogue. It’s how hard you work, how professional you act, and how well you dress.
Stock your wardrobe with cool-toned colours, and professional wear. Have a few pairs of good suits. Pencil Skirts are a great option too.
Make sure that you invest in good shoes.
- HAIR
A neat pony tail, or a low elegant bun will help give you that professional look.
Remember, it’s not just about the work but also the comfort. Make sure that your hair stays out of your face and in place all day long.
Doing an intricate up do with a dozen hair clips will not only be distracting, but will also end up giving you a horrible headache at the end of the day.
- FLAWLESS SKIN
When we say go for clear flawless skin, it doesn’t mean you have to buy that expensive foundation and layer it on. Yes, it might give full coverage, but it will also end up making you look cakey.
Skip the foundation. Moisturise your face well, and invest in a good CC cream that will not only give you a matte and healthy coverage, but will also not make you look all chalked up.
However, if you must use a foundation or are used to wearing foundation every day, purchase a light-weight formula, preferably a mousse formulation, that is made for everyday wear.
- TO GLOSS OR NOT TO GLOSS
If you’re headed off to the office, it is definitely not to gloss!
Too much gloss looks flashy, and makes you look like you’re slobbering.
Go for a matte lip colour.
If you’re lighter in colour, pick peaches, pinks and corals.
If you’re duskier, go for mauves, crimsons and brownish nudes.
But remember, a matte formulation is always better. It not only gives a flat, professional look, but also lasts longer and stays in place.
- SUBTLE EYES
That thick, cat-eyed liner, and the glittery black smokey eyeshadow is good for a night out with your friends, but when it comes to office wear, the subtler you keep your eyes, the better.
Make sure that your eyebrows are filled in and neatly filed. Go for a nude eyeshadow, (invest in M.A.C’s paint pot, they’re best suited for office wear), and skip the eyeliner and the kaajal – but if you must go for a soft, thin line.
However, there is one product that you can load up on for the office look – and that is every girl’s best friend – the mascara!
Use a good, long lasting mascara that’s waterproof. Two coats of your favourite mascara will be enough to open up your eyes, and give that fuller, brightened look.
Just remember, before you grab that electric orange lipstick or the bright fuchsia blush – think. The way you look might cost you your job.
Remember, you’re being hired for your skills, and that’s what needs to ultimately shine out of you at the end of the day.
